In honour of International Women’s Day, The Empowerment Issue is a celebration of powerful women within the creative industry who are using their voices to promote gender equality, advocate the power of authenticity and showcase different perspectives.

Tune into a session about redefining beauty and inclusion, listen to a podcast series about authenticity and empowerment, watch a selection of short films by local female makers, educate yourself about which political parties are working on gender equality, and get to know our Cover Artist and more about her passion for photographing women.

Today, The TittyMag – an intersectional feminist art collective founded by Cathelijne Blok, launches four t-shirts in collaboration with Japanese retailer Uniqlo for International Women's Day. The t-shirts are designed by four female Dutch artists – Marina Heuvelman, Judith Pool, Wies van der Wal, and sisters Ziarah and Tisja Janssen. Marina and Judith speak with The TittyMag about inclusivity, their experience within the creative field and the collaboration with Uniqlo.

Showcasing unique voices and different perspectives.

Girls in Film (GiF) has curated a number of short films as part of Melkweg's Claiming Space programming to celebrate International Women's Day. GiF celebrates the work of female identified and gender non-binary filmmakers from around the world. For this five day event they have selected short films by local Dutch makers, showcasing different perspectives and voices that embody filmmaking in many approaches.

With the Dutch elections just around the corner, The Gender Equality Voting Advice from WOMEN Inc. and Atria allows you to clearly see to what extent political parties are working on gender equality. Alongside this, they also provide information regarding other factors such as combating racism, diversity, mental health care and LGBTI + rights. To help you make an informed choice, they have listed a number of voting recommendations.

A huge thank you to photographer Maxime Cardol, represented by Czar Amsterdam, for being our seventh FRONTIER and the Cover Artist of our EMPOWERMENT Issue. As a photographer, Maxime is drawn to and fascinated by photographing women – the way they move, laugh, talk. Her intimate work is natural and emotive, emitting an aura of ease and authenticity, allowing us to immediately connect with her subjects. Check out our full interview with Maxime below.
